Our Mission

We envision a world where everyone can choose safe products they can trust. Where caring for ourselves never comes at the expense of caring for the planet. Where access to the essentials that uphold dignity is universal and equitable. Where education inspires confidence and encourages open conversations. Where thoughtful design helps make periods feel as natural as they are.

Fighting Period Poverty

Period poverty is a critical issue, and addressing it is a central part of our mission. At Iris + Arlo, we work to advance menstrual equity by supporting initiatives that increase access to safe, sustainable menstrual products and education; so that every cycle can be experienced with dignity, health, and equality.

  • 200K+ Products Donated

Since receiving our very first production run, we have donated 200K+ menstrual products to various organizations working to fight period poverty. Through these partnerships, we support diverse communities in several Canadian provinces—young people, women in vulnerable situations, Indigenous peoples, and many others.

Environmental Impact

Conventional pads are estimated to be 90% plastic, which, along with their wrappers, wings and adhesives each add some 2 g of non-biodegradable plastic - or the equivalent of four plastic bags - to the environment with each use. Considering that each menstruator will use and discard approximately 12,000 pads and tampons in their lifetime, the environmental impact is massive. [2]

Up to 800 years

19 Billion

single-use menstrual products are consumed each year in the US [4]

771 248 400

is the estimated amount of menstrual products ending up in landfills every year in Canada [5]

  • The vagina is one of the most absorbent areas of the body. Yet many people are still unaware of how menstrual products can impact their health. That’s why we make it a priority to raise awareness, share reliable information, and promote healthier, more transparent options.

We believe that design has real power to create impact: it can normalize, reassure, and open up dialogue.

A well-designed product — visible and embraced — helps destigmatize menstruation in both educational and professional settings.

Our design allows us to partner with events in health, sports, culture, and many other sectors to raise collective awareness that menstrual products should be available at all times — just like toilet paper.

Thank you to our impact partner Desjardins, who has been with us since the beginning.
